Writing Excuses
Three authors, one who writes fantasy, another who writes horror, and one who writes and draws comic strips, have come together to offer snippets of writing advice. The link is in my sidebar. The site is called “Writing Excuses.” Every week or so, they offer a 15-minute discussion of a point of writing, and the triple perspective makes for a very interesting discussion.
Brandon Sanderson is the author who’s finishing A Memory of Light, the final novel in Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series.
Howard Taylor is the author of Schlock Mercenary, one of my favorite online comics.
Dan Wells is a horror author, which isn’t a genre I read very often but which gives him a great perspective on what gets a reader’s attention.
The current discussion, number 6, is on character flaws and handicaps. It really gives you something to think about for character development, and why the flaws are what allow for the growth of the character and for the connection between the reader and the character. Check it out.
